What is ups.exe?

Process Name: ups.exe or ups
Process Owner: Microsoft

Description:
ups.exe is a process that has to do with the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) service from the company Microsoft. It is used by PCs to communicate with a UPS. The ups.exe service notifies users if a UPS unit needs to take over owing to "normal" power supply source failure. Ups.exe can also automatically shut down PCs when the UPS battery runs low to avoid data loss.

Recommendation:
A computer that is hooked to a UPS should leave the ups.exe process running. Disabling ups.exe could cause problems as it is required by a number of essential PC applications to function properly. A smart thing to do would be to run regular free performance scans on PCs. This will help keep key computer aspects like Internet settings, CPU and memory always optimized.
