3 Ways to Fix Windows Problems

Posted by Kat

When your Windows operating system has been running for a while, even if you have optimal virus protection, things will start to happen.  Little bits of old programs, battles with viruses and day-to-day use will cause Windows problems to immerge.  Dependant upon your expertise with a Windows system, you may be able to fix some of the problems yourself.

Run Diagnostics Tools
The very first thing you should do is run a diagnostic combination.

  • Click on the “my computer” icon
  • Then right-click on your hard drive
  • This will open a secondary window that offers a “tools” option
  • Here you will find “error-checking” or “scandisk”, “defragmentation” and “backup.”

It is always good to run a backup before you start mucking around with Windows.

  • Next, run an error check.

This will require you to shut down and restart your computer.  Expect it to take between 30 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the size of your drive and the amount of data contained therein.

  • When that is complete, you will defragment the drive as well.

Finally, you need to remove all cookies and temporary files.

  • Open Internet window and click on the tools icon.
  • Click again on the Internet Options tag.
  • Under the General tag, you will see an option for browsing history where you can delete all cookies and temporary files.
  • Go ahead and click on it.
  • If that doesn’t solve most of your problems, you need to get more serious.

Check Each Error Code Online
A more technical approach involves checking the bulletin boards online that give you solutions for repairing specific errors.  I’m fairly computer literate and this still makes me nervous.  I have no way of knowing if the repair is legitimate or someone’s idea of a joke with the intent of making bigger problems.  With that in mind, NEVER remove any file or folder unless you are absolutely sure what it will do.

Use a Registry Cleaner
The Registry on Windows organizes the program and system settings on your PC.  Without it Windows has no way to access the data on your machine.  When things go wrong, the registry is often in need of a cleaning.  Just like your car needs regular oil changes, registries need to have the gunk cleaned out as well.

Download a good Registry Cleaner to solve Windows problems and let it solve your Windows problems.  It only takes a few minutes, but your computer will be optimized to run quickly and efficiently.
