How to Fix Win 32 Generic Host Process Errors

On your Windows XP PC, you may sometimes encounter errors for the WIN32 Generic Host Process.  To fix these errors, try the following options:

Win 32 Generic Host Process Option One:
1. Shut down your PC.
2. Disconnect your printer or scanner.
3. Restart PC and remove old printer/scanner drivers.
4. Install compatible drivers for your printer/scanner.
5. Reboot with printer/scanner connected.

This usually works, especially if you have an HP printer or scanner hooked up to your PC.  It usually is just a failed driver for your printer/scanner that causes the error.

Win 32 Generic Host Process Option Two:

  1. Go to the Start menu, select Run, and type “net stop wuauserv”.
  2. Click Ok.
  3. Open My Computer and locate and delete the following folders:
    C:\WuTemp
    C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2
  4. Open the C:\Windows folder, then the C:\Windows\system32 folder and rename the following files from .dll to .old:
    Wuweb.dll
    Wuapi.dll
    Wuauclt.exe
    Wuaucpl.cpl
    Wuaueng1.dll
    Wuaueng.dll
    Wuauserv.dll
    Wucltui.dll
    Wups2.dll
    Wups.dll
  5. Reboot computer.

Prevention of Future Win 32 Errors
This will clear your computer of the damaged files causing you problems and prevent them from resurfacing.  These errors tend to occur due to errors within your computer’s registry.  Prevent Win 32 Generic Host Process errors by downloading and utilizing a good registry cleaner.  A registry cleaner will find and fix any registry errors and help optimize your PC’s performance.
