Stop Registry Errors: XP Registry Cleaners 101

If you have used your computer for any length of time you have registry errors. This means you probably need a Windows XP registry cleaner.

What is a Registry Error?

Let us start by telling you what registry errors are, then you can start to see how big a problem they can be. Simply put, registry errors are any errors in the core programming code of your Windows XP. They can be corrupt files in your registry, empty registry keys, links that point to nothing, ActiveX errors, etc. They can cause any number of things from slow computer, strange errors popping up, blue screen errors, crashing programs, to system crashes.

Causes of Registry Errors

There are several causes of registry errors. The most common is virus infection. Other causes are improper installation or un-installation of programs, getting over zealous in your cleaning off the hard drive and accidentally deleting files needed by the registry, and poorly written programs operating on your computer.

Before we go any further, you need to update your anti-virus and run a full scan on all of your hard drives to ensure you have a clean system.

Fixing Registry Errors the Old-Fashioned Way

In the days before registry cleaners, you would have to do the following steps to fix registry errors:

  1. Go to the Start Button on the lower left of your desktop
  2. Go to run and type “regedit” in the box
  3. Click Next
  4. Click OK
  5. A box will appear for you to name the file you are backing up.  Choose a name and then back up.
  6. Now look at the left side of the box and view all of your Registry Files. There will be many, many files. Click on the various titles to view the files in them.
  7. Good luck finding the one/ones you are looking for!

Fixing Registry Errors Today

Today, you can download XP registry cleaners. What registry cleaners do is go into your registry and fix corrupted registry keys, dll’s(dynamic link library files) that may be corrupt or missing, and removes empty registry keys, empty file path references(links that go nowhere), and harmful ActiveX controls. All of those things affect the way your computer runs and can cause issues from slow speed to system crashes.
