How to Fix ActiveX Object Errors

Posted by Kat

When you head out into the big world of the internet you encounter many different types of web pages.  Many use ActiveX Object portions to allow them to present more information faster and more easily.  The problem is that ActiveX in itself can be used as a transmitter of viruses, spyware and other scary things.

Originally rooted in Microsoft’s Object Model, COM and OLE the Object Linking and Embedding technology, this easily managed technique can present videos, animations and acquire data in ways not seen before.  With an increasing number of sites providing a multi-media experience, ActiveX has become a critical component of web page design.

How to fix simple errors
Sometimes the reason ActiveX fails is because it is trying to run in programs that have been deleted from your computer.  Under these circumstances you need only reload the software for ActiveX to run properly.  Another option is to find the missing files online and download them to your computer.  All you need to do is enter the error code into the search bar of your internet browser and follow the provided directions.

Other errors make themselves known when you arrive at a webpage that needs a specific ActiveX component.  To fix those errors, click on the yellow bar that appeared directly below your navigation bar and choose “install ActiveX control.”  After the control has completed installation, renew the page.  It should work fine now that it has the proper ActiveX control.

Simpler fixes for your ActiveX software errors.

The simplest way to avoid problems with an ActiveX Object is to run a registry cleaner on a regular schedule.  It will pick up errors that virus scan don’t because they only search for viruses, not deficiencies in the system.  In a matter of minutes your computer will be running clean and fast.  What an easy repair!

3 Ways to Prevent Windows 2000 Professional Crashes

Posted by Kat

The bad news is that Windows 2000 Professional is no longer supported by Microsoft.  That means that they no longer create service packs that will help you overcome the common problems that cause your system crash.  Other solutions can keep your system running well.

Run Windows 2000 Professional in Safe Mode
One of the most accurate ways to figure out just what is wrong with your system is to boot the machine in Safe Mode.

  • Check the boot log file, NtBtlog.txt.
  • Write down the drivers and programs that didn’t load when you started the computer.
  • You can find this log in the System Root folder.
  • Once you have identified the faulty systems, you may be able to dig up reasonable solutions for your problems.

Online Bulletin Boards Have Windows 2000 Info
Because there are a seemingly endless number of people interested in keeping older systems running, bulletin boards abound online with helpful and not so helpful advice.

Common errors like DLL or a Virtual device driver fail are relatively straightforward to repair.  These errors occur when you add a new piece of software, and it corrupts the VDD value.  You can go into the operating system and correct the value by removing the corrupt one and inserting the proper value.

More complicated errors such as unreliable performance on a multi-booting system are harder to address.  Repartitioning the drive and putting each system in a separate partition can help, but involves some expertise and time.

FASTFAT errors are usually memory related, not the result of a corrupt driver.  Replacing the faulty memory with a known reliable card may solve the problem without needing a complete system overhaul or recovery.

Registry Cleaners to the Rescue
I’ve got to tell you; just the idea of trying to run anything but the simplest repair on my computer gives me palpitations.  I am certain I will do something that will make my data irretrievable or corrupt.  I know many other people in the same boat.

What we do is opt for downloading a good registry cleaner and let it figure out what is wrong and how to fix it.  A registry cleaner will find and eliminate problematic drivers, remove dysfunctional bits of old programs and in general clean things up.  Optimize Windows Professional 2000 with a registry cleaner to run fast and reliably.

The event will be joined by OpenOffice supporters and makers. This will include a presentation by Jean-Paul Huchon, president of Region Ile de France, Louis Suarez-Potts, president of the OpenOffice.org Community Council. Charles-H. Schulz, leader of the native-language confederation at OpenOffice.org is also set to speak on the engagement. The event will be sponsored by Region Ile de France, Silicon Sentier, and OpenOffice themselves.

Earlier, OpenOffice 2.0 and 2.4 versions suffered a flaw affecting the software’s custom memory allocation routine. The bug was exposed by iDefense’s VCP (vulnerability contributor program) where enthusiasts and bug finders get paid to expose software vulnerabilities and bugs.

E-Diet

Posted by Kat

I’ve been looking for a healthy, but more daring chicken recipe on the Internet. Although my doctor counts chicken as a personal foul on my diet (I’m sometimes allergic to it), I can’t resist inserting one fowl dish on my daily menu. To exaggerate a bit, I think my body simply won’t function without a piece of chicken. It’s my very own operating system :)

Just as the human body can’t function without food, so does a computer without software. While you may store virtually almost anything on your hard drive, keep in mind that the files or applications that your computer runs on should be cholesterol-free. System registries, actual and virtual memories get clogged when fed with programs that are poorly written, or worse, laced with spyware or adware.

When people get sick, they take in medicine. It’s quite the same in the case of computers. If your unit gets infected with electronic worms or diseases, all you have to do is find a cure for it. Sometimes, all it takes for a PC to be up and running again is to rid its registry of needless instructions coming from parasitical files or programs.
