Toshiba TG01 Smartphone Exposed

Posted by Mike

Toshiba jumped in the smartphone bandwagon with the new TG01 touchscreen smartphone. The unit was unveiled at the latest London event for the tech geeks!

The new TG01 smartphone has a 4.1in touchscreen and uses the same technology that the manufacturer used in Regza TVs. Talk about something that will give rivals Apple and HTC something to fear about.

The device has a full flash support which allows users to browse the web fully and watch videos from websites like YouTube which makes it better than iPhone. The TG01 measures just 9.9mm deep, and is therefore thinner compared to the iPhone and the bulky T-Mobile G1.

TG01 has built in GPS, Wi–Fi, HSDPA, a 1 GHz Qualcomm processor and the keyboard looks like a marriage of iPod Touch and iPhone keypads.

The smartphone runs on Windows Mobile. The phone will be out this summer but if you can’t get enough of this news, you can head on to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona for some real views!

Toshiba Unveils Prototype Fast-charging Laptop Battery

Posted by Mike

Toshiba unveiled its new fast-charging SCiB battery in Ceatec exhibition in Chiba, Japan. The battery according to some tech enthusiasts put it is the “future of computer batteries”.

The prototype battery boasts a charging time of slightly more than 10 minutes. Tests on the SCiB, short for Super Charge Ion Batteries indicated that it can recharge 90 percent of its full capacity within 10 minutes. Compared to present lithium-ion batteries, the SCiB drains slower and has higher recharge cycle limit.

Toshiba said that their prototype battery is safer compared to lithium-ion batteries. The company claimed that it will not explode even if it is crushed. Toshiba used a unique thermal stability technology on the battery. This technology prevents the battery from short circuits and overheating, rendering it safe for the gadget and the person using it.

The new battery’s recharge cycle limit is also 10 to 12 times more than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. Toshiba said that the SCiB can tolerate up to 5,000 to 6,000 recharge cycles. Common lithium-batteries are only good up to 500 recharge cycles.

The prototype battery was attached to a Dynabook laptop during a demo. It was used to show the battery’s fast charging capability.

However, this is not the first SCiB in the world. Last year, a similar battery was introduced for industrial use.

The new battery is still far from making its ways into your computers as Toshiba said that they have no plans of releasing the battery anytime soon.

Lucrative Fruit Business

Have you noticed Apple’s fast ascendancy in various fields?

While it hasn’t beaten Nokia and Motorola just yet in the mobile phone industry, it has definitely won the ears of millions of people around the world with the iPod. Its notebook is still considered as a novelty items by many, but it’s fast gaining ground in its attempt to unseat heavyweights, such as IBM, Toshiba, Fujitsu, and Acer as the most wanted brand in portable computing.

I wonder if Apple’s OS would soon end Windows reign. Many doubt it, especially since the OS X has yet to reach a number of countries outside the United States. While I also share the same sentiment, I’m not totally closing the door on Apple. When the iPod was released a few years ago, I thought that the hype was just a fad. I was wrong. It totally shook the music industry and rearranged the order of things, with Apple on top of course.

Many expect the same kind of support for the iPhone. Unfortunately, a few technical, as well as business limitations, may have watered down the market potential of the gadget. But I’m sure Apple will think of something in order to entice people into dropping their N95 or Razr for the iPhone. The same thing is true for the OS X. It’s just a matter of time when Apple will start concentrating on its OS and make a bid for the distinction as the widely used operating system in the world.
